Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- According to South Carolina's Freedom of Information Act, salary information for public employees who earn more than $50,000 is public record, and a searchable database is available to you on wltx.com.

You can search salary information for state agencies like the Governor's Office, the Department of Public Safety, the Office of the State Treasurer, and the Attorney General's Office.

Salary information for state employees who make more than $50,000 in a department covered by the Office of Human Resources of the South Carolina Budget and Control Board is public information. Salary information for employees of public universities like the University of South Carolina, Clemson University, and South Carolina State University are available.

The following agencies are not included: Administrative Law Court, Education Oversight Committee, Information And Technology Services, Legislative Audit Council, Legislative Council, Legislative Printing, Lottery Commission, Medical University Hospital Authority, Santee Cooper, SC Commission On Prosecution Coordination, SC House Staff, SC Jobs - Economic Development Authority, SC Judicial Department, SC Research Authority, SC Senate Staff, and SC State Ports Authority.

You can search the database by agency, (i.e. Department of Health and Environmental Control, University of South Carolina, Etc.), or you can sort it by salary.

Budget and Control officials say the salary information they provided is entered by individual agencies into a central computer system, and that they cannot "guarantee the accuracy" of the data. They say salary data does not reflect any pay reductions that would result from employee furloughs.
