Gamecock Baseball Takes Crucial Road Series at LSU

Baton Rouge, LA (WLTX) --- Freshman southpaw Jack Wynkoop tossed seven shutout innings as the tenth ranked Gamecocks beat second ranked LSU 4-0 Sunday at Alex Box Stadium.

Wynkoop allowed five hits and no walks while striking out a single batter. He improves to 6-2 on the season. Senior southpaw Adam Westmoreland came in for relief work before Tyler Webb earned his 14th save of the season.

USC got on the scoreboard in the very first inning. LB Dantzler hit an RBI double down the right field line. Following Dantzler, freshman Max Shrock would drive in Dantzler with an RBI single giving the Gamecocks a 2-0 lead.

In the second inning, Chase Vergason drove in Tanner English on a sacrifice fly to right field. An insurance run was added in the ninth inning as Sean Sullivan  scored on another Vergason sacrifice.

With the win the Gamecocks improve to 33-12 on the season and 13-8 in the SEC. South Carolina is back at Carolina Stadium Friday night to begin a three-game series with Vanderbilt.
