Richland County, SC (WLTX) - A man has been sentenced to prison time for his role in a Richland County dogfighting ring.

James Earl Green, 61, plead guilty to one count of dog fighting and one count of animal cruelty. He was sentenced to a year in prison.

On September 8, 2011, deputies got a call of dogs barking at a location on Camp Ground Road. When deputies arrived they found several dogs chained to the ground, and found other evidence of mistreatment.

Officers say Green and several other men were watching two dogs fight.

Several suspects fled the scene. The next month, however, Green turned himself over to the authorities.

Richland County deputies say Green used either box cutters or scissors to cut the ears off puppies.
