Columbia, SC (WLTX) - A family court judge has ruled that a juvenile suspect charged in connection with the beating of a man in Columbia in 2011 will be tried as an adult.

Judge Dorothy Mobley Jones says 15-year-old Delarrett Canzater will be waived to General Sessions Court.

Canzater was one of eight suspects arrested in connection with the June 20, 2011 beating of Carter Strange in Columbia's Five Points.

Strange suffered a cracked skull, several bones broken in his face, and had to have emergency surgery to stop a hemorrhage in his brain after the assault.

Four juveniles have already pled guilty to charges related to the incident and have been sentenced.  Charges remain pending against the two adult defendants, as well Canzater.
