Richland County, SC (WLTX) - A man Richland County deputies say kidnapped a Columbia teen has waived his right to a bond hearing.

Freddie Grant, 53, was scheduled to appear at the Richland County Detention center for a bond hearing on a kidnapping charge. However, about an hour before the proceeding was set to begin, he made his decision to not appear before the judge.

Sheriff Leon Lott has said Grant took Gabbiee Swainson from her home last August. The Ridge View High School student has not been seen since then.  Previous Coverage: Mom Says She Believes Her Daughter is Alive

According to Lott, his officers found physical evidence, including DNA, linking Grant to the crime. Officers believe Grant took the girl back to his home in Elgin.

Early in the investigation, officers found ammunition in Grant's house, which was a violation because he is a convicted felon.

He was arrested and ultimately convicted on a federal ammunition charge. While he awaited his trial and since his conviction, Grant's been housed at the Lexington County Detention Center.
