Richland County, SC (WLTX) - Richland County deputies have a new notification system that will help keep residents in the county informed.

It's called the Sheriff's Alert System.

The new system will give an overall upgrade to the Reverse-911 program that was set up about ten years ago.

With the Alert System, residents can receive text alerts and other messages from the Sheriffs Department about current crimes, missing children, and other newsworthy events in their community.

Sheriff Leon Lott says this program will be a big help.

"There are so many people who just have that cell phone or just want to get a text, this program allows them to sign up for as much or as little information as they want and be able to get that information very quickly," Lott says.
