SUMTER, SC (WLTX) A man accused of robbing a Kangaroo convenience store in Sumter has been arrested.
John Jeffery Wilson, 38, was arrested Thursday afternoon and charged with armed robbery.
According to police, on Saturday February 16 at approximately 1:15am, Wilson approached the clerk behind the counter of the Kangaroo on Broad Street in Sumter and demanded money from the register.
Police say that the clerk believed the suspect was armed with a weapon and gave him an undetermined amount of money. The suspect, according to the report, fled the scene.
A store security camera photo led to a break in the case, detectives, according to the report, were able to follow an anonymous tip that led them to identify Wilson as the suspect in the robbery.
During the course of being interviewed by detectives, Wilson made statements implicating himself in the robbery.
Wilson is currently being held at the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center pending a bond hearing o the charge.
