Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- Richland County deputies attempted to stop a stolen vehicle early on New Year's Eve, and the suspect responded with gunfire.

According to RCSD spokesperson Sgt. Curtis Wilson, 27-year-old Dexter Fuller was spotted driving a Chevy Avalanche, which had recently been reported stolen, on Bluff Road in southeast Richland County just before 1AM Tuesday, December 31st.

The Deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, but Fuller failed to yield to the blue lights, and a short chase went from Bluff Road onto Crestlite Drive, where Fuller reached a ded end.

The Deputy approached the vehicle, instructing Fuller to exit, but Fuller fired shots at the deputy. Fuller again attempted to flee in the vehicle, traveling from Crestlite Drive to Camino Court, where he wrecked and fled on foot.

Fuller was located and taken into custody without further incident, and was transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

The Sheriff's Deputy did not suffer any injuries in this incident.
