Swansea, SC (WLTX) - A former Swansea police officer has been arrested on a charge of misconduct in office, after investigators say he used sold drugs to be used for training to people in the community.

Charles Shuler, 37, was booked at the Lexington County Detention Center.

Swansea Police Chief Cliff Hayes says the arrest came after a two-month investigation after a resident in the Gaston community tipped them off that their might be a problem.

Hayes says as part of Shuler's job, he was given a small amount of illegal narcotics to train his assigned K-9 officer.

However, Hayes says his department got a tip that Shuler had frequented a known drug house while on duty. Monday, officers executed a search warrant at that home and the two people inside said they had been supplied with narcotics by Shuler.

Hayes says Shuler has been fired from his job.

Shuler is being held on $100,000 bond.
