Charleston, SC (WLTX) - Photos of several South Carolina politicians at a recent event are gaining national attention online.

The photos were taken during the National Federation of Republican Women's Board of Directors meeting in Charleston. The event was called "A Southern Experience."

Several photos show Senate President Pro Tempore Glenn McConnell in a Confederate uniform posing with a pair of African-Americans. Link: Photos of the Event

The photos have been picked up on political blogs both here in South Carolina and nationally.

News19 made phone calls and started asking questions about the photos.

It turns out the two people along with McConnell are Gullah entertainers who have performed at many Lowcountry Heritage Festivals.

Several other political leaders also attended the Republican group's meeting, but they were not dressed up in Confederate gear.

Alan Wilson, the GOP nominee for attorney general, was there, as was Governor Mark Sanford. Republican Gubernatorial nominee Nikki Haley also spoke at one of the National Federation of Republican women's events Thursday, but was not at the Southern Experience on Friday night.
