Columbia, SC (WLTX) A new farmers market is going to be opening in downtown Columbia on Main Street.
A unaminous vote by Columbia City council Tuesday has allowed the Main Street Farmers Market to open next Saturday, October 13, according to Michael Wukela, Columbias city's strategic policy advisor.
Main Street from the corner of Hampton and Taylor Street would be closed for the market, and vendors would set their tents up on the closed section of the street.
Currently the farmers market is located on Whaley Street, and city officials hope the market will continue to bring new life and economic interest in the downtown corridor.
Mayor Steve Benjamin says, "Having a farmer's market return to downtown for the first time in decades is a wonderful opportunity to bring people together to help show off the wonderful things that are happening in the city center."
