Clemson, SC (WLTX) - A report by Clemson University suggests that a wind farm could create thousands of jobs along the South Carolina coast.

The study, released Thursday, was prepared by the school's Restoration Institute and Storm Thurmond Institute of Government and Public Affairs for the SC Energy Office. Link: SC Wind Energy Supply Chain Survey and Offshore Wind Economic Impact Study

The report claims that if a 1,000 megawatt offshore wind farm was built between 2016 and 2025, it would create an average of 3,800 jobs per year during the 10 year construction period. According to the study, it would also create $2 billion in wages and nearly $620 million in local and state revenue.

In particular, the study claims a wind energy industry in the state would also create higher than average paying jobs, with salaries for management and technical jobs averaging just over $78,000 a year.

The study says by creating a viable wind energy industry, the state would be stronger nationally and globally.
