West Columbia, SC (WLTX) - It was the perfect day to get outside and maybe fire up that grill. But are you a master of the coals? Or just hoping that what you come up with is edible?
Some ladies got the answers to their burning grill questions at the Girls For Grills class at the State Farmers Market.
"I usually don't get to do this part," V.V. Massey says as she turns over her rack of ribs slowly cooking.
It was a day of firsts for these ladies. While some of the men in their lives were watching football, they were learning the grillin' skills needed for the next tailgate.
The hands-on class was led by BBQ Shop Talk Radio hosts Tim Handy and Mark Busbee. And it involved a little classroom time away from the grill too. Says Massey, "m=My husband and I are, we have a barbeque competition team and he does most of the cooking and I do most of the dishwashing, so I wanted to learn more about how to do the cooking.">
Gas or Charcoal?
The grill can be a little intimidating to some. "I won one at an auction at work, so I now want to learn how to use it," explains another class participant, Lillie Hunter, "You can't be the flavor. You can't find it in a restaurant, you can't duplicate it in the oven."
But now, these chicks have their grill master tongs poised and ready to cook for the masses at their next barbeque or tailgate.
