Woman Attempted to Kidnap Toddler, Police Say

Sketch released by the Sumter Police Dept. of a woman wanted in connection with an attempted kidnapping.

Sumter, SC (WLTX) - Sumter police are searching for a woman they say tried to kidnap a 2-year-old girl.

The incident took place on November 12 at 5:30 p.m. in the 600 block of Flamingo Road.

Officers say the suspect entered the fenced in yard at a home on that road and tried to grab the child. The child's mother saw what was happening, however, and ran out and got her child. She then called police.

Sumter police have released a sketch of the suspect. She's said to be about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 175 pounds.
