Sumter, SC (WLTX) - The Sumter High Gamecocks will have a new head coach next season.

Paul Sorrells has stepped down after 14 seasons on the job.

Sorrells is a graduate of Sumter High School and took over the program on an interim basis in 1999. He went on to lead that program to eight winning seasons and four years where the program reached 10 wins or more.

In 2003 and 2008 Sorrells led the Gamecocks to the AAAA state finals. In 2008, Sumter lost to Byrnes High School, led by then running back Marcus Lattimore.

The program has struggled of late, with just 11 wins in the last three seasons.
