Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The City of Columbia is changing their procedures when it comes to controlling the city's rat population.

They will now only apply rat bait in the sewer system and not in the storm drain system as they have done in the past when they receive calls about rats in a particular area.

Officials with the city say they are not violating any laws or causing any health hazard when the bait is installed properly, but are making the change to accommodate some concerns made.

The city will monitor and evaluate the call volume related to the rat population to determine if there appears to be an increase in the rats because of the change.
