Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- A Columbia church is being ordered to pay  for violating the city's noise ordinance.

Police have responded to the Rehoboth United Assemblies Church on Laurel Street more than 10 times.

Neighbors began complaining, calling police saying the congregation was too loud.

On Wednesday a Columbia court found the church in violation of three noise ordinance citations. They'll have to pay a $740 fine.

The first citation given to the church was dropped.

People who live in the town-homes next to the church say the church is too loud at all times of the day. They says it is not an issue of religion, but a courtesy to neighbors.

At services the night following the court apperance, one neighbor said the volume seemed better, although he could still hear loud drumming.

Church leaders said they made no major changes, but did appoint a member to monitor sound outside the building and in the neighborhood behind the church.
