Columbia, SC (WLTX)- It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the Capital City. But there is some red and green that isn't getting people in the holiday spirit.

"I am looking for an expired meter, which is red," said Monica Conyers with the Columbia parking enforcement team.

There is a way you can avoid getting one of those pesky tickets, you can purchase an "in and out" pass from the city. You are not assigned a specific spot but you can park anywhere on the designated street without having to feed the meter.

John Spade with the parking services department says the program has been in place for several years but with so much going on downtown, this is just another option to make things a bit easier for citizens.

"The downside would be when there is some kind of event going on in the area and all of the spaces are filled."

Another potential downside, the passes only work in surrounding areas of downtown.

The "in and out" passes are $35 dollars and can be purchased at 820 Washington Street.
