Richland County, SC (WLTX) - Richland County Election Commission Director Liz Crum said Monday she has "no confidence" in Richland County Election Director Lillian McBride.
Crum made her announcement during a meeting of the election commission. Before she made that comment, the board had been meeting behind closed doors in executive session for an hour and a half.
Crum called McBride a friend, but said she no longer believed in her ability to manage the office. Crum followed up her declaration by announcing that she would resign her post effective Tuesday.
Before this past November's Election Day debacle, Crum had said she wouldn't seek another term on the board. Her term was to have ended in March.
McBride and the Richland County elections commission have been under scrutiny over how it handled the election. An interim report written by the commission's attorney said there were over 200 fewer machines than needed at the polls on November 6th.
A final report on all the election problems is expected in a few weeks.
Also on Monday, the election board voted to ask lawmakers to pass an early voting bill.
