COLUMBIA, SC (WLTX) - Dr. Clyde Stockton of Stockton Family & Cosmetic has passed.
Dr. Stockton practiced dentistry in the Columbia area for almost 40 years. During that time, he served on the Richland County Recreation Foundation Board, the Business Development Corporation Board, and was also a delegate for SC Dental Association. He was also a member of the Dental Association, American Dental Association, and the Academy of General Dentistry.
He helped set up the Medicaid Dental program for children in the Hopkins/ Eastover area early in his career, and assisted numerous dentists with passing the dental licensure exams in SC.
Dr. Stockton also served as President of Palmetto Medical Dental and Pharmaceutical Association during his career as well as the local Association here in Columbia. Understanding the importance of dental care, he spearheaded numerous initiatives to provide access to dental care for citizens of SC.
He loved dentistry and his patients, for he treated them with the genuine kindness and respect that he felt they deserved. He believed in the Lord and the goodness of people.
Dr. Stockton graduated from Howard University College of Dentistry in 1975 as president of his class. While there, he became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.
His favorite organization was the Guardsmen. For many years, he was a very active member of the Congaree Medical, Dental and Pharmaceutical Association and the Palmetto Medical, Dental and Pharmaceutical Association. In 1994, he was named Doctor of the Year.
He leaves behind his wife Wilatrel and his son, Dr. Ruges Stockton. In his memory, the family is asking that monetary donations be made to Bridging the Gap with Alpha to help fund student scholarships. Checks can be mailed to 5219 Two Notch Road in Columbia.
