Spartanburg, SC (WSPA) --

Spartanburg County Sheriff's deputies charged a man who they say falsely claimed he'd murdered someone.

Joseph Donald Ledford, 56, of Cowpens is charged with filing a false police report of a felony and using a 911 number unlawfully.

Deputies say they were called to a home on Gore Drive Sunday after he called dispatchers to say "he had murdered someone at this address" according to the incident report.

A woman at the home said she was unaware of any report, but said her former husband had been harassing her.

SCSO deputies were able to locate Joseph Ledford at the Sun and Sand Motel in Spartanburg where he was arrested according to the report.

A $3,500 bond was set by a judge after he was taken to the Spartanburg County Detention Center Sunday evening.
