Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- Lawmakers celebrated Clergy Day at the Dome Thursday. The Legislative Black Caucus sponsored the event.
Clergy members observed the session and prayed for the state, nation and elected leaders, including Gov. Nikki Haley and President Barack Obama.
The caucus says the event will help the faith community work with lawmakers on moral, legal and justice issues.
"The clergy has been left out, and we need to bring the faith community back in. Talking about restoring families, just a whole moral issue of problems that we see in this state. The faith community needs to be a part of that," said Caucus Chairman, Rep. Harold Mitchell of Spartanburg County.
The caucus says it will continue to work with clergy members to get out information about legislation and remain connected to that community.
