Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The handicapped widow of a World War II Veteran is getting help from volunteers in Columbia.

Amputee Mary Davis says she was recently denied her husband's military benefits and is living in conditions that have put her health at risk.

USC's event and festival planning class is volunteering to make repairs to her home. She says she doesn't have a ramp to get in an out her home, an accessible bathroom, or stable flooring and that this is a blessing.

"I'm so elated," Davis says. "God is so good. because I never thought this would happen to me. And from the bottom of my heart I can't thank the people who are helping me enough."

Volunteers will begin work on her home on Woodrow Street Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
