Lexington, SC (WLTX) -- It's always tough to say goodbye, but on Saturday over 100 soldiers did just that.

The 122nd Battalion departed from the Midlands.

"Well, it's probably one of the hardest things I've ever done," said Lt. Col. Victor Brown.

For Brown, the second deployment is even harder than the first.

"The first time you go, it's all adrenaline. You're all excited and  pumped up about it so you don't really think about it until you get there," Brown said. "And you're like, 'Oh, crap. I'm that far away from home and it's going to be a while."

And Jordan Brown, his oldest daughter, knows that he'll miss milestones.

"Senior year is coming up so he's going to miss prom and hopefully not graduation, but that's going to be difficult," Jordan said.

But she still has a little while longer with her dad. The 122nd Engineer Battalion prepared for deployment with a departure ceremony.

"The best part of working is when you take a group of young men and women, a group of soldiers, and you mold them into a unit capable of conducting combat," said Command Sgt. Major Bill Bryant.

Bryant has been a part of the unit since 1991 and this will be his 3rd deployment with the 122nd battalion. And while many Americans show gratitude in the form of cards and care packages, he's asking for something you can't buy.

"Just continue to pray for us...pray for the troops and pray for us and that way we'll get home with the good Lord willing with nobody hurt," Bryant said.

The Battalion will be leaving for Ft. Bliss in Texas in early March. Then they will be heading to Afghanistan for about a year.
