Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Friday evening hundreds of USC students embarked on a mission, a mission to dance for 24 hours in efforts to raise money for the Palmetto Children's Hospital.

"Dance Marathon is really all about the kids," said USC Senior, Jillian Karl

For the past 15 years thousands of students at USC have raised more than one million dollars for the children's hospital.

"College can be a very selfish time and it's amazing for students and it is amazing that we can get such a large community to come together and do something so selfless," said Karl.

"When I was a student here I was on the first planning committee and participated as well so this is something I always thought was pretty cool," said USC Alum, Alexa Bigwarfe.

Alexa Bigwarfe says it makes her feel good to see students that are committed to giving back.
What she never expected was to be on the receiving end of those donations.

"Keris was born nine weeks early, she was a twin, and her twin sister didn't survive. She spent 12 weeks in the hospital," said Bigwarfe.

Keris weighed less than two pound when she was born. Bigwarfe calls her a miracle child. She says her child may not have been here without the support from USC and the hospital.

"It's one of the best facilities in the state and we are blessed to have that support right here locally."
