Richland County, SC (WLTX) - Richland County deputies are searching for a suspect they say tried to abduct a girl who was walking home from school.

Officers say at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, a 14-year-old woman got off a school bus near the intersection of Broad River Road and Hufstetler Driver.

As she was walking home, officers say a man approached her while driving a burgundy two-door pickup truck. The man asked her if she wanted a ride, deputies say.

The girl refused and began walking away, but that's when officers say the suspect got out of the truck and started chasing her. Officers say the girl was able to get home, lock herself inside, and call her family.
