Orangeburg, SC (WLTX) -- Trustees for South Carolina State University met Friday to discuss the contract for the school's new president.

The board elected Thomas Elzey to lead the university last week.  He currently serves as Executive Vice President for Finance, Administration, and Operations at The Citadel.

After nearly two hours in executive session the board voted to request a salary amount from the State Agency Head Salary Commission and a foundation made up of donors and "friends of the university."

"We made a request to the agency salary commission for a certain amount, they have to approve that. We are also contacting the foundation for their support as well for the supplement to the salary. And so when that is finalized we'll make that public to all parties," said Chairman Dr. Walter Tobin.

He says they will have to meet with both groups and receive approval before announcing more details on the contract.
