COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - An Alaska woman has had an emotional reunion in Columbia with the son she gave up 30 years ago.
Janice Lobaugh of Wasilla, Alaska, came to Columbia on Thursday to meet Spencer Williams, an Army veteran who lives in Pickens.
Lobaugh was 17 when she gave birth to Williams in Juneau, Alaska, in 1983.
Lobaugh told Williams she felt like she was looking at herself when she saw him. She gave him a baby book with his birth certificate and other items.
A social services agency had suggested giving him up for adoption. Lobaugh said she did so in order for him to have a better life.
Williams and his wife met at Fort Jackson in Columbia during basic training.
Lobaugh said the meeting is the best Mother's Day present.
