Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Columbia City Council members continue to look at what to do with the city's "Busted Plug" art sculpture.
During an afternoon council work session, members passed a motion accepting a consultant's review to move the Busted Plug to the corner of Taylor and Gadsden Streets. That's at the corner of Finlay Park.
The plans call for turning the hydrant into a water fountain using fresh water.
Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin expressed concerns about allowing children access to a proposed park near heavy traffic areas of downtown.
Planners say during the summer months the fountain would use about $240,000 gallons of water.
"Busted Plug" is a 40-foot tall fire hydrant created by South Carolina artist Blue Sky. It had stood on Taylor Street since 2001.
