Columbia, SC (WLTX)- The campers at the Girls Rock Columbia camp are getting ready to show off all they have learned during a week long camp.
While the girls do learn about rock 'n' roll, Girls Rock Columbia, also focuses on empowering young women.
"Playing an instrument gives the girls a sense of identity," said Kristin Morris, An organizer of Girls Rock Columbia.
The campers, ages 8 to 18, have been learning instrument basics and also learning to write their own solngs with their new bandmates.
"When you put loud insturments in front of women some really interesting things can happen," said Morris. "We are trying to create a fun safe environment."
Morris says this is the first year for the event at the Tapp's Center, but she hopes it will continue next year.
The end of camp showcase will be Saturday, July 27th at the Tapp's Art Center on Main St. at 3pm. Admission is $10.
