The Irmo Okra Strut boasts fried okra.
Irmo, South Carolina (WLTX)-The rain has put a damper on many people's summer plans, and it has even halted a million dollar project.
The new Irmo Town Park being built may not be ready in time for the Okra Strut Festival on Sept. 27th and 28th.
Their goal is to finish the park by the first week of September, but if it continues to rain, city leaders will vote on a backup location.
"The rain slowed us down a lot," Irmo Public Works Dir. Whitt Cline said. "We're still hoping to have it finished on time."
Since the start of summer Cline and the construction team have been building the new park.
"We've been in a eight or nine year drought and now we're having rain everyday or two so it's a different situation we're having to deal with," Cline said.
The 500 seat amphitheater is halfway done and the playground is almost finished, but construction workers and city leaders are crossing their fingers August will bring bluer skies.
