Richland County, SC (WLTX) - Four kindergarten classes at Pontiac Elementary will have to be moved to a different part of the building until Monday because of mold.
School officials found what's described as a "small amount" of mold while doing final preparations for the first day of classes, which is Wednesday.
Crews will spend the time cleaning the mold away.
District leaders say the situation only affects the kindergarten wing, and that the rest of the building is fine.
"I want to commend our entire staff and District staff for their teamwork in making the necessary adjustments to ensure that teaching and learning starts on day one," said Pontiac Elementary Principal Katie Barber. "While this does pose a slight inconvenience, the safety of our students and staff always comes first and I thank you our community for their understanding."
