Columbia, SC (WLTX)- The woman who died after being shot while riding as a passenger in a vehicle early Sunday morning, has now been identified.
Richland County Coroner Gary Watts says Amanda F. McKemiehas, 23, of Gaston was pronounced dead Sunday just after 3:30pm from complications of a gunshot wound to the head.
The male driver tells Investigators that the pair was driving along West Campanella when he heard gunfire, and saw the female critically injured.
He called 9-1-1 and EMS transported the victim to a local hospital. She was pronounced dead by medical staff soon after.
CPD Investigators have collected evidence from the scene and continue to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting, including a motive.
Chief Santiago says, "This violence must end. The person (or persons) responsible for this senseless death will be caught and held accountable for what has happened. CPD Investigators are gathering information and it is only a matter of time before someone is charged with murder."
