Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Imagine what you would do the moment you won the lottery; obviously you would want to tell your spouse or your kids, but in this case the winner was home alone when he found out, so he turned to his best friend; his dog.

Monday, the winner of the 400-million dollar Poweball jackpot turned in his winning ticket but wishes to remain anonymous.

"I play twice a week," said Vickie Hall.

A week after everyone found out that the winner Powerball ticket was sold at Murphy USA in Lexington; they've seen more cars than usual. Some say it's in hopes that luck can rub off on them.

"You know for whatever reason I think they will, its just six random numbers and it just happen to be picked here," said Jared Beard.

"I think so but it is very rare that lightning strikes twice so that's good for Murphy USA," said Hall.

The Columbia man was pumping gas at the Murphy Express gas station in Lexington when his wife called...asking him to bring home some hot dog buns. The store didn't have buns but he bought $20 worth of tickets that changed his life forever.

"Murphy does a great job at advertising the jackpots and it caught his attention and he saw the jackpot number and said let's give it a try," said state Lottery Director Paula Harper Bethea.

The winner wishes to remain anonymous and Jared Beard says he doesn't blame him.

"If I won I would remain anonymous I don't think I would want anyone to know I had all that money," said Beard.

Harper Bethea says this is not only a big win for the person who won...but for the state as well.

"This ticket really helps education in the SC and that's what makes us the happiest."

The Department of Revenue will get 15 million dollars from taxes from the prize.

Two to three million dollar will go to the state Education Department and Murphy USA will receive $50,000 dollars.
