Orangeburg, SC (WLTX) -- South Carolina State University received a $10,000 grant from The Home Depot for Campus Improvements.

The Home Depot "Retool Your School" grant initiative works to improve the landscape and provide upgrades on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) school campuses around the country.

Every year 14 grants are awarded, and for 2013, SC State was the only South Carolina school to receive an award.

SC State is working now on their landscape beautification project, specifically for areas around the Annie B. Williams hall, a female student residential hall.

In addition to landscaping, the University will use the Grant to convert to more energy efficient lighting, as well as environmentally friendly lawncare products.
