MARION, S.C. (AP) - A nonprofit started by Gov. Nikki Haley is encouraging children in Marion County to get big on books.
On Thursday, Haley and the Original Six Foundation are visiting Marion Intermediate School to read with third graders. Children's author Ashlye V. Wilkerson is also taking part, and each child will leave with a new children's book.
Haley is then going to the Marion County Library to deliver more than 2,000 books donated during an August book drive held by the Original Six Foundation.
In addition to Marion, books collected during that effort are being donated to libraries, schools, and after-school programs in Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Clarendon, Marlboro and Union counties.
