Stock Futures Bask In Talk Of Debt-Deal Progress

Wall Street stock futures Friday were slightly higher as investors continue to bask in what was seen as progress at resolving the U.S. budget impasse.

Dow Jones industrial average index futures added 0.1%, Standard & Poor's 500 index futures were flat and Nasdaq index futures rose 0.1%.

The Dow soared more than 300 points Thursday, breaking a three-week funk in stocks.The gains came after Republican leaders said Thursday they would vote to extend the government's borrowing authority for six weeks. A spokesman for President Obama said he would "likely" sign a bill to increase the nation's ability to borrow money.

On Friday, Asian markets were higher. Japan's Nikkei 225 stock average was up 1.5% at 14,404.74 and Hong Kong's Hang Seng added 1.2% to 23,218.32.

In Europe, the FTSE 100 index of leading British shares was up 0.7% and Germany's DAX rose 0.3%. The CAC-40 in France was down 0.1%.

In energy trading, benchmark crude for November delivery was down $1.23 at $101.78 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract rose $1.40 to close at $103.01 on Thursday.
