Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Several South Carolina groups want to double the number of people who register as potential organ and tissue donors.
A campaign was announced at the State House Wednesday morning by Donate Life South Carolina and the Department of Motor Vehicles.
South Carolina officials say more than 98 percent of the people in the state's registry signed up through the state DMV to be organ donors. However, the state ranks 45th in the nation with a donor designation rate of about 20 percent.
Last year, about 100 people in the state became organ donors upon their deaths, donating more than 360 transplanted organs.
