Columbia, SCC (WLTX) - Thursday was "Eating Disorder Awareness day" in South Carolina.
The declaration was made at the state house, and was part of a project by graduating members of "Leadership Columbia."
The group is working to raise awareness of eating disorders in our state. They are also supporting the work being done by the Hearth Center, which is the state's first comprehensive treatment facility for eating disorder.
The group from "Leadership Columbia" is working to renovate the cottage that is home to the hearth on the campus of the Carolina Children's Home.
Organizers say it's a problem that affects over 4,000 adolescents in our state.
