Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- The City of Columbia is sending out a flyer to residents explaining changes to water and sewer rates, and offering workshops to help customers understand the changes.
The City of Columbia Water and Sewer Customer Care Center will extend their hours to 7pm on weeknights from April 16 through April 24th.
The City will also hold public workshops on the following Saturdays: 8:30a - Noon on April 20th
8:30a - 3:00p on June 8th
8:30a - Noon on June 22nd
The workshops will have informational sessions for residents to explain the affect of the rate restructure, how it will impact your bill, and ways for consumers to reduce their bills through conservation of water consumption.
They will also fully explain the four rate changes approved:
- Water base rates will go down for customers with 1" or larger meters.
- Water customers with dual meters will be charged the base water rate of the large meter in lieu of both meters.
- Sewer customers with dual meters will be charged the base sewer rate of the smaller meter in lieu of the larger meter.
- Volumetric rates will increase for all water and sewer customers by 7.96%.
The Columbia City Council approved the water and sewer rate restructure on March 26th, that will go into effect on May 1st.
The water rate change will impact the June water and sewer bills.
