Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The state's health department is partnering with veterinarians to offer rabies vaccinations for pets.

The Department of Health and Environmental Control says people will be able to vaccinate their dogs, cats, or ferrets against the disease.

"Rabies is a threat to pets, wild animals and humans, so all pet owners should have their dogs, cats and ferrets vaccinated as required by state law," said DHEC's Sue Ferguson in a statement. "The disease is fatal once the virus reaches the brain."

The vaccination fees will not exceed $10 per pet. For information on times and locations for the effort, go to DHEC's rabies webpage.
