Dalzell, SC (WLTX) - Family and community members came together Thursday night to mourn the loss of a Sumter County native who died in Afghanistan.
23-year old Andrew Bubacz of Dalzell died last week after a head injury. The incident happened while working in a communications tower.
Thursday night, more than 60 people gathered together outside for a candlelight vigil. His friends and family held each other closely, at times laughing and at other times crying.
They tell News19 that Bubacz loved playing the guitar and drums and that music was his passion. He was a husband, father, and a son.
"He made an impact on everybody, whether it was at the grocery store or [whether] you were his friend for ten years. He just made such a huge impact on everyone he came into contact," said close friend Jonathon Shilliber.
"He was the type of person that would sit there and listen for hours to hear you talk about nothing. He would make you laugh when you were sad and hold you when you were crying," said close friend Amanda Benavides.
"If you could just imagine the world's most amazing, kind hearted, funny and loving person that was him," said close friend Heather Allman as she cried.
Bubacz's funeral is set for 11:00 Friday morning at the Bullock funeral home in Sumter. His burial will take place afterwards at the Fort Jackson national cemetery in Columbia.
