Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Stephen Garcia has been suspended from the football team, USC athletics officials said late Wednesday.

Athletics Director Eric Hyman issued a brief statement on the matter, but did not clarify what violation led to this suspension.

"Being a student-athlete at the University of South Carolina is a privilege, not a right," said Hyman in the statement. "We have expectations for our student-athletes and we make them aware that there are consequences for their actions. Stephen has exhibited behavior that is unacceptable for one of our student-athletes. Therefore, he has forfeited the privilege to participate in any football related activity until further notice."

Sources close to the team say Garcia had a meeting with Hyman and athletics officials Tuesday night, and 'acted up.' At that point, Garcia was suspended.

A little over two weeks ago, after being briefly suspended for a violation which happened during bowl week, Garcia promised he would not get in trouble again.

"Just got to be smarter, that's the bottom line," he said on March 24. "You know the last time I got in trouble was three or four years was a bad decision on my part down in Atlanta. Nothing bad is going to happen again. That's a guarantee." Original Story: Garcia Guarantees No More Trouble
