Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Friday, Brett Parker was arrested for the murder of his wife Tammie and his friend Bryan Capnerhurst.
"The evidence at the scene does not match the story that Brett Parker told us," said Sheriff Leon Lott.
In April, Brett Parker called 911 from his home saying that his wife Tammie and family friend were shot. Original Article: Brett Parker Arrested, Charged
Friday, he was arrested, and Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott says he's lying about what happened.
"Bret Parker was a bookie and Capnerhurst was an employee of his in his gambling operation, Capnerhurst was there to pick of money that was owed to him," said Lott.
Deputies say Parker shot and killed his wife and Capnerhurst. There is no word on his motive. Sheriff Lott says the reason why the investigation took so long is because there was a separate investigation with the Secret Service.
"For the past 3 months our investigation has focused on the forensic evidence as well as lots of interviews with everyone associated with the Parkers and Capnerhurst family," Lott said.
"Some people say that gambling is a victim-less crime, but I think if you ask the children of Tammie Parker and her family and the family of Bryan Capnerhurst they will tell you there are victims with gambling. "
Despite the rumors and speculations about what happened and why did the investigation take so long, Lott says he wanted to wait until they knew exactly what happened.
"There was no love triangle, no one came home and caught anyone with anyone, these 3 people all knew each other."
"I was not going to stand at the podium until I knew what I was talking about and for me to get up and discuss every little theory that someone had to me would have just been an injustice to everyone."
