Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- The wait is almost over, Cross Hill Market at the corner of Cross Hill Road and Fort Jackson Boulevard will open in late October.
"We hear a lot of excitement, we hear an awful lot of excitement, and we're excited to be where we are in this process," said Herbert Ames, Development Manager at Edens.
Cross Hill Market, the future site of the Midlands' only Whole Foods store, plans to offer a lot to the community.
"Having a retailer like whole foods come to town kind of puts Columbia on the map," said Ames.
Ames says Whole Foods, the property's anchor, will be surrounded by a mix of local, regional, and national business like Basil Thai Restaurant, Charleston Cooks (a kitchen supply store), Jamie Scott Fitness, M Boutique, American Roadside Grill, Hand & Stone Massage & Facial, Nadeau Furniture, Taziki's Mediterranean Cafe, and ULTA Cosmetics.
Additions that have already made an impact on the surrounding community.
"I think you're seeing the results of this project already, some of the recent construction starts, some of the announcements that you've seen around town," said Ames.
He says they have worked on small touches to enhance the property, like landscaping and the use of cedar beneath the Whole Foods canopy. They have also used a local firm on the project to pick lighting and outdoor furniture.
"That's something that's very important to us, making sure that we are connecting, making sure the furniture and the selections are reflective of the community," said Ames.
As opening day moves closer Ames hopes the community will become more excited about it's newest spot in town.
"I think the next 45 days as people can really see it come together and see what we have on the grand opening day. Hopefully they'll be proud of it, they'll call it theirs," he said.
