Motorcycle Driver Dies in Collision

Calhoun County, SC (WLTX) -- Authorities are investigating after a man died following a collision Friday.

Officials with the Highway Patrol say the incident occurred on Kennerly Road in Calhoun County.  Reports indicate a vehicle was headed west on Kennerly Road and preparing to turn into a private drive when a motorcycle tried to pass it.

The driver of the motorcycle, 68-year-old James Markel, was transported to Palmetto Health Richland for treatment.  He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital and was pronounced dead.  Authorities say Markel was not wearing a helmet.
