Columbia, SC (WLTX) - New developments are beginning to surface about ballot errors in Richland County's general election.

A press release sent by Garry Baum, Deputy Director of the Richland County Elections and Voter Registration, reports that the Election Systems & Software conducted an analysis over the weekend of the vote counting issues.

Technicians from PrintElect, a partner with ES&S, were sent to diagnoise the problem and discovered there was not a hardware issue but an issue with the database coding.  Ballots were printed that couldn't be read by the scanner.

At the request of the Richland County Election Commission, ES&S technicians sent to Columbia determined that the problem occurred because a different style of ballot was printed.

Vote counting will continue on Wednesday at 1pm and must be counted and certified by noon on Friday.
