South Congaree, SC (WLTX) -- The Police Department said farewell to a longtime K-9 Officer following his battle with cancer.
K-9 Officer Enzo served the citizens of South Congaree and the Police Department for the past 8 years.
Enzo, a 9 year old German Shepherd born and trained to work as a K-9 Officer in Holland, was partnered with Officer Roger Singleton in South Congaree.
Police Chief Jason Amodio said: "It is with a heavy heart that we inform citizens that Officer Enzo is no longer with us. Please keep his handler, Officer Singleton, and his family in your prayers during this difficult time in dealing with the loss of his partner."
"Since we are a small family," Chief Amodio went on, "the loss of Enzo is the same as losing a law enforcement officer. Enzo was a special dog. He was great at detecting drugs, and equally great at interacting with children at schools and churches. Enzo was a part of our family and will be deeply missed."
The Police Department plans a memorial service at a later date to recognize K-9 Officer Enzo for his many accomplishments, and to formally thank Enzo for his service to the agency and citizens of South Congaree.
