Police: Jewelry Store Robbery Suspect was Wanted for Murder

Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Columbia police say a suspect in a jewelry store robbery is also wanted on a murder charge out of Georgia.

Police identified 23-year-old Armond Gibson as one of the two men they believe robbed Mim's Jewelry on Garners Ferry Road. He's being held at the Richland County Detention Center, and has been denied bond.

Officers say around 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, Gibson and an unidentified suspect went into the store, smashed a glass case, and took jewelry.

According to police, the men drove off and their vehicle eventually crashed a few miles away. Gibson was caught quickly, but the other suspect got away.

Gibson is charged with two counts of armed robbery, four counts of kidnapping, criminal conspiracy, and possession of a stolen vehicle.
