SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (AP) - State police say a Summerville man forged divorce documents to make his girlfriend think he was not married.

The State Law Enforcement Division says 45-year-old Edward Brown was arrested Friday and charged with misdemeanor forgery.

Police say Brown scanned his divorce decree from his first wife into his computer. Authorities say he changed the case number and several dates and also added the name of his second wife.

SLED says Brown then mailed the paperwork to his girlfriend and told her that it was real.

Brown was being held in the Dorchester County jail. It wasn't known if he had a lawyer.
